Counsel
Amara Okafor
Employment and executive matters, and workplace investigations
Amara Okafor advises employers and executives at the points that decide a working relationship: the offer, the agreement, the departure, and the dispute. She drafts and negotiates executive employment and separation agreements. She advises on non-competes, non-solicits, and confidentiality covenants, and she enforces or defends them in court. She handles terminations that carry risk.
She also runs workplace and internal investigations. When a complaint reaches leadership, she interviews the witnesses, reviews the record, and reports what happened and what to do next.
Amara spent four years as a trial attorney in the New York District Office of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, investigating and litigating discrimination charges. She then defended employers in employment litigation at a national firm before joining BRG as counsel. She knows how an agency reads a charge, and she prepares clients for that reader.
She grew up in Houston, the daughter of Nigerian immigrants, and is the first lawyer in her family.
